October presented a fun time for us beauty enthusiasts. Unlike September, which mostly saw an uptick in haircare and skincare newness, this month offered a variety of beauty launches that hit virtual and store aisles. From a new line of fast-drying nail polishes by Olive and June to a fragrance from fashion house Jimmy Choo, something from practically every beauty category came out this month. We at Reviewed parsed through all of them to help you decide where to direct your attention—and cash, if you’re planning to treat yourself.
There’s a lot more where this came from. Sign up for our weekly newsletter to get all our reviews, expert advice, deals and more.
1. This versatile eyeshadow palette: Huda Beauty Empowered Eyeshadow Palette
Thanks to its inclusion of 18 shades, the Huda Beauty Empowered Eyeshadow Palette is everything you need for a beautiful, polished eye look. It contains a medley of neutral colors to choose from as well as a wide selection of copper and golden-toned hues that come in “matte,” “shimmer,” “satin” and “metallic” finishes. Mix and match the colors for an elaborate ensemble or wear them alone for a soft wash of color on the lids.
2. This fast-drying nail polish: Olive and June Quick Dry Nail Polish
Are you crunched for time and can’t fit a manicure appointment in? The Olive and June Quick Dry Nail Polish avows to save you precious time by drying in “about a minute,” according to the brand. It comes in 19 shades that have a “mirror-like shine.” Once you’re satisfied with the paint job, you can seal all the glossy goodness in with the also-new Quick Dry Top Coat.
3. This matte liquid lipstick: EM Cosmetics Soft Spoken Velvet Lip Creme
Cakey-looking, dry lips are supposedly unheard of with the Soft Spoken Velvet Lip Creme from EM Cosmetics. According to the brand, the matte lipstick’s lightweight texture encases lips in a “plush, velvety softness” that is easily customizable for either subtle or dramatic coverage, depending on how many coats you apply. The lip color is available in five shades: “Whisper” (dusty rose), “Petal” (crimson red), “Tender” (brick red), “Intuition” (soft red) and “Manifest” (burnt orange).
4. This gourmand-scented perfume: Jimmy Choo I Want Choo Forever Eau de Parfum
Designer Jimmy Choo is making waves in the fragrance category with the launch of the I Want Choo Forever Eau de Parfum. Billed as “a chypre amber gourmand fragrance,” the perfume is meant to embody “confidence and elegance.” It’s laced with notes of juicy rose, black cherry liquor, jasmine, vetiver, vanilla and tonka beans. The perfume comes in both a 3.3-ounce and 2-ounce bottle as well as a 0.3-ounce travel-size spray.
5. This colorful makeup collaboration: Ciaté London x Iris Apfel Makeup Collection
Fall may have its fair share of gray skies and dreary weather, but the items in this eight-part Ciaté London x Iris Apfel Makeup Collection couldn’t be more opposite. In fact, the lineup’s colorful, whimsical nature draws from fashion icon Iris Apfel’s vibrant personal style. Hints of color are invited to decorate the nails with the Cheat Sheets Nail Wraps, play up your eyes using the Accidental Icon and More is More, Less is a Bore eyeshadow palettes and define your lips with the Creamy Lipsticks in the shades (berry pink), “Original” (nude pink) and “Exuberant” (bright orange). The collection includes a makeup bag and handheld mirror as well.
Starting at $15 at CiatéLondon
7. This customizable hair styling product: Function of Beauty Custom Styling Primer
The Custom Styling Primer from Function of Beauty wants to help people of all hair types achieve their best hair yet. But how does that work, you may ask? Before getting your hands on the product, prospective users must take a hair quiz on the brand’s website, in which you’ll be asked to define up to two hairstyling goals, such as frizz control or curl definition, as well as select one of eight fragrance options (one being fragrance-free). Finally, you’ll choose your desired level of hold, i.e. flexible, medium, strong.
The styling product holds itself to a lengthy list of claims, such as protecting hair from heat up to 450°F and UV damage, cutting down on blow-drying time, adding shine to strands and minimizing frizz. You can either spritz the liquid onto damp strands before heat styling or on dry hair to freshen up your look.
8. This vanilla-scented moisturizer: Ellis Brooklyn Satisfying Skin Caring Moisturizer
Fragrance and body care brand Ellis Brooklyn is entering the skincare space this month with the launch of its Satisfying Skin Caring Moisturizer. This self-described “fluffy”-textured face cream claims to give skin a slightly blurred finish while sitting well under makeup. Niacinamide and squalane are responsible for brightening and hydrating the skin, respectively. It’s also infused with a vanilla scent, though the brand contends that it shouldn’t irritate the skin.
9. This nostalgic nail art collaboration: Orly x Lisa Frank Holiday 2022 Nail Collection
Nail polish brand Orly is tugging at our collective Y2K nostalgia by way of the Orly x Lisa Frank Holiday 2022 Nail Collection. The collaboration includes four packs of gel strips and three packs of nail wraps that are decorated with Lisa Frank’s illustrations in her signature rainbow colors. You can also have your pick at four confetti-style nail polishes as well.
10. This relaxing body oil: Osea Vagus Nerve Bath Oil
There’s no better time to unwind than during the long, cold days of the fall season, and Osea is making that all the more possible thanks to its Vagus Nerve Bath Oil. In addition to putting your body at ease, the bath oil promises to treat your body to some hydration. Essential oils such as chamomile and lavender aim to alleviate stress while botanical oils like avocado and jojoba seed introduce moisture.
